Charactes and machanism of mixed disinfectant

 In order to comply with international standard of disinfectant, our company developed a kind of mixed disinfectant with carbon dioxide and ethylene oxide by introducing into foreign technology. The product is highly effective and safe with mild contamination. The trade names are: Tgas and Etox.

1. To compare pure ethylene oxide with mixed gas
Pure ethylene oxide is inflammable and explosive. Relative density of ethylene oxide is 0.884 at 4°C; boiling point is 10.7°C, and molecular weight is 44.053.Under normal temperature and ordinary pressure, it is in gaseous state. Its specific gravity is heavier than that of air and its density is 1.53g/cm3. It's colorless and transparent, with the smell of ether or chlorine when volatilizing. It is easy to decompound and inflame in liquid or gaseous state. If contacting naked flame, it may explode and release large amount of heat energy, so it's quite dangerous. It may also explode if placed in limited container. The volume of ethylene oxide occupies 3% in air, which is within the explosion range.
Mixed gas is formed with inert gas (carbon dioxide) and ethylene oxide; it can avoid inflaming effectively. When mixed gas of 2080 and 3070 is at critical temperature (40.6°C and 33.4°C), Q 10 of 440mg/l ethylene oxide is 3.2,and carbon dioxide itself is a kind of extinguish material, so mixed gas is not inflammable and explosive with catalyst. And this kind of ethylene oxide also has good sterilizing function, and can greatly reduce the toxicity to the sterilizing products.
2. Mechanism of mixed disinfectant
The main ingredient for the product is ethylene oxide. The product is made with ethylene oxide, carbon dioxide and imported sterilizing catalyst at special proportion. This product has very strong sterilizing function for all types of microorganism. Alkylating agent can react with -COOH, -MH2, -SH or -OH of bacteria protein. The sterilizing mechanism of mixed gas is that ethylene oxide can react with-COOH, -MH2 or -SH of protein (the reaction is called alkylation) to replace the instable hydrogen and form a compound with -CH2CH2OH. Because this compound is as active as ethylene oxide with the same alkylation capability, it can weaken the normal functions of a lot of reaction groups of microorganism so as to kill the microorganism. The reaction is as follows:

 There is -SH on the surface of bacteria propagule, so spore is not easy to be killed by other chemical disinfectant. The spore can protect -SH after it is formed, and the common disinfectant can only combine with -SH, so spore is not easy to be killed. Unlike the common disinfectant, ethylene oxide can also combine with -COOH, -MH2 or -OH, and can affect the metabolism of spore cells, so it can kill spores. For these characters of alkylation disinfectant, it has wide-spectrum sterilizing capability.
3. Characters
Carbon dioxide is inert gas. After it is mixed with catalyst and ethylene oxide, it is not only safe to use, but also will greatly reduce its toxicity. In mixed disinfectant added with catalyst, the steam pressure is enlarged so as to intensify penetrating force of ethylene oxide and improve the effect of sterilization. Additionally, carbon dioxide is one type of nontoxic disinfectant. When large amount of it exists together with ethylene oxide, it can absorb large amount of toxic gas, so the procedure of resolution is fast.
4. Use
For mixed disinfectant of ethylene oxide is broad-spectrum and not easy to damage disinfecting articles with strong sterilizing ability and good penetrating force, and is of the advantages of safe, not easy to inflame or explode and weak toxicity after added with inert gas (carbon dioxide) and catalyst, it is welcomed by numerous consumers. Now its application scope is more and more wide, for example: medicine capsule, medical-purpose gelatin, medical products, food, bedding, operating tools, injectors, infusion apparatus, historical relics, calligraphy and painting, leather, non-woven products and electronic machines, etc.

5. Use and Storage
 Generally, the toxicity of mixed disinfectant won't contaminate our environment. It is only need to discharge it from equipment in required procedure. Mixed gas is not inflammable or explosive, but its pressure is larger than that of pure ethylene oxide after added with carbon dioxide, so naked fire should still be avoided during storage and application. Power distribution facilities should be installed according to standard requirement for inflammables and explosives. Meanwhile, rubber hose and fire extinguishing apparatus should be outfitted to deal with accident in time. Steel cylinders filled with disinfectant shouldn't be piled up in the open air, or be insolated under the sun. Please handle it with care to prevent it from collision and falling. Storage period of the product is two months. Remark: 100% sterilization effect of mixed disinfectant can only be gotten through correctly grasping its characters (temperature, humidity, concentration, degree of vacuum, sterilizing time and packing amount, etc).
