It is colorless liquid with slightly fragrant scent. The melting point is -50℃. Boiling point is 198-199℃ (95℃/2.67kPa). Density is 1.055-1.056. Refractive index is 1.4143. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform and benzene. Ethyl malonate will produce malonic acid and ethanol in the reaction of acid and alkali.
