Rotenone
Physical & chemical properties:
Rotenone comes from derris root extract by crystallization¡£Pure
rotenone is colorless, hexagonal crystals, with a melting point
of 163°C. It is insoluble in water, slightly soluble
in mineral oil and carbon tetrachloride, readily soluble in polar
organic solvent, particularly in chloroform. It racemizes in basic
solution. It is vulnerable to oxidation which leads to decrease
of potency, especially under light or basic condition. It is practically
stable under dry condition.
Toxicity:
Acute oral LD50 for rat 1500mg/kg, highly toxic to fish
and silkworm, low toxic to bees, domestic animals and human. Rotenone
possesses medium toxicity according to China's agrochemical toxicity
classification standard.
Use pattern:
Rotenone is a long-used botanical insecticide, a direct contact
and stomach action poison. It has good selectivity and low systemic
absorption. It kills the pests through inhibition of cell respiratory
enzyme. It is degradable under light and air, free of residue contamination.
For control of aphid in vegetables, the safety interval is three
days.
Formulation: ≥85% Rotenone Emulsion
Properties & Use:
Light brown liquid, may precipitates at low temperature and decompose
at above 80° C.
The formulation is most desirable for vegetables, to control aphid,
diamond-back moth, flea-beetle, etc. Rate of use is generally 1500ml
for one hectare, diluted by water and applied as spray.
